The End Draws Nigh...

Well, we're creeping up on the end of one of my favorite horror franchises.  In October, Saw 3D (aka Saw VII) will be released and, we're promised, the final answers to the entire series will be revealed.

I'm aware that there are plenty of people out there who assume that the Saw series is nothing but torture or gore porn.  That's not so, but I'll reserve my full diatribe for the seven-part series that's coming to this blog after Saw 3D is released.  No, today, I'm here to offer a sort of eulogy.
I knew the Saw films.  Knew them well and, perhaps, loved them just a little.  I felt as if the characters, villains, heroes (if there can be said to be any in the series), and survivors alike were friends and family.

I'll miss these films when there are no more of them.  Oh, I know I can always go rewatch them.  But it won't be the same, knowing that, with each passing film, we're approaching the end of the story.

It's sad, but I'll go on.  I'll find another terrifying, gory, densely-plotted-with-occasional-massive-plot holes horror franchise to love.  It won't be the same, but it will help.

I know we've still got a while until the last film is in theaters, but I feel compelled to go ahead and get my goodbyes out of the way.

So goodbye to John Kramer and Amanda Young, to Jill Tuck and Lieutenant Mark Hoffman and Dr. Laurence Gordon and everyone else.  Farewell to tubs, traps, tricks, and tapes.

Most of all...goodbye, Billy.  Maybe one day we'll play another game.

R.I.P. Saw, 2004-2010.
